In Doug McDermott, the Indiana Pacers get a reliable floor-spacer who will allow them to mix and match with different lineup combinations.

The Indiana Pacers‘ agreement with forward Doug McDermott on a three-year deal worth $22 million was a move met with little fanfare.

A former lottery pick by the Denver Nuggets — who then immediately sent him to the Chicago Bulls — McDermott hasn’t been able to stick in any one place for all that long.

He’s played for four teams in the last two seasons, unable to find an organization capable of maximizing his skill-set. This past year was no different, as McDermott bounced from the New York Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks.

After a surprising berth in the 2018 NBA Playoffs, the Pacers are looking to build on their early success, led by the ever-improving Victor Oladipo.

McDermott was brought in not to lead this team moving forward, but to be a cog that does his part in order to contribute. With the stability of a three-year deal in hand, McDermott can rest easy knowing that the Pacers believed in him enough to grant him such stability.

Indiana is unlikely to surprise anyone in 2019, which could lead to some early season struggles for the 6’8” sniper. If he can find his niche within the game plan of head coach Nate McMillan, McDermott can really help this Pacers team in the areas they lack.
