Philadelphia 76ers: 3 reasons Wilson Chandler trade is a terrific move
By Derek Hryn
1. Defensive versatility
One of the Sixers’ main struggles in each of their losses last season came from defending around the perimeter. Chandler could be of tremendous help in that area.
The Sixers were able to win games last year due to the emphasis they placed on defense and shooting, both of which were quickly diminished in the Eastern Conference second round playoff series against the Boston Celtics. The Celtics had a clear advantage at the wing position that Sixers couldn’t handle defensively. When the shots weren’t falling for Philly, they didn’t have a prayer.
Chandler is a veteran who can virtually guard any position no matter where he is on the floor.
A large part of the Nuggets’ 46-36 record last year was due to the complementary role that Chandler played. Although he is not the numbers guy that most people would like to see, he opened up a lot of opportunities for the young Nuggets stars like Jamal Murray, Nikola Jokic and Gary Harris.
