The verdict

With limited cap space, the Pistons could have done much worse than Robinson in free agency. He gives the team a 3-point threat at the small forward spot. His length gives the team additional lineup flexibility. At only $4.2 million this season, he should be a bargain as long as he’s healthy.

Johnson will have the inside track on the starting job heading into the season. However, Robinson does give the team more offensive flexibility. Johnson has failed to take the next step the team hoped for when he was drafted. While Johnson is the more athletic and higher ceiling player, Robinson has been consistent in his career. If he doesn’t take the starting job, he’ll push Johnson to be better.

GRIII is a developing young prospect. At only 24 years old, he still has a lot of years ahead of him. He has plenty of time to get better. Dwane Casey is a great coach to develop young talent, and he can help bring the next level of production out of Robinson. If he is able to remain healthy this season, he could easily help strengthen a team that ranked 20th in bench scoring this past season.
