Detroit Pistons: How will Glenn Robinson III fit in next year?
How he fits
Robinson is the modern NBA wing. He’s a career 38.1 percent 3-point shooter while making his bones on the defensive end of the floor. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, his role will be the same. He will be used interchangeably with Johnson. Both will see their roles from last season adjusted.
Head coach Dwane Casey turned OG Anunoby into a starter that could match up with the best wings in the NBA. While Robinson may not have the same defensive chops, he is more skilled on the offensive end. He’ll be very limited in his ability to create. With the team having players like Reggie Jackson, Smith and Blake Griffin to create, this will alleviate the issue of that weakness.
The Pistons could have done much worse than Robinson in free agency. The team finished 11th in defensive rating last season. Robinson will only help push that rating and make it better. His shooting will be a great addition due to Johnson’s inability to shoot from distance.
Casey is a great coach on both ends of the floor. He will bring out another level of production that we haven’t seen from Robinson, as long as he is able to remain healthy.
