The Detroit Pistons added Glenn Robinson III in free agency. He gives the team the modern 3-and-D wing that Stanley Johnson has yet to become.

The Detroit Pistons had a limited amount of cap space, but they made a good use of it with the addition of Glenn Robinson III.

Robinson provides the team with the shooting it lacked on the wing last season. He also gives the Pistons the length and defensive chops to increase the team’s switchability. While Stanley Johnson is the better defender, Robinson is the better two-way player right now.

The Pistons were heading into this season needing to add shooting and positive defenders. With their limited cap space, they didn’t have access to the top of the market. Robinson gives the team both of these features. He ranked 21st in the NBA in DRPM. When he played 69 games in 2016, he shot 39.2 percent from 3-point range. Robinson is a major improvement over Johnson on the offensive end.

Robinson’s main role with the team will be as an off-ball slasher. He will also push for the starting job that Johnson has failed to lock down. Robinson’s 3-point shooting has consistently improved throughout his career. One major issue he will have to overcome is his health. He has never played more than 69 games in his career and has dealt with countless injuries. While his role will be reduced, he still needs to be healthy to play.
