1. Shooting

Where Belinelli is going to help the San Antonio Spurs is with his 3-point shooting and, therefore, his ability to space the floor. Currently, the only players on the Spurs’ roster (who want to be there) considered to be elite from deep are Patty Mills and Danny Green.

This led to the Spurs to being between 25th and 28th in all major 3-point shooting categories last season. Somehow, in spite of this, the Spurs were still able to make the playoffs. This year, they will have the benefits of Belinelli’s 37.7 percent accuracy from outside the arc.

This will space the floor for the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge to go to work. Aldridge was playing against double-teams for a large part of the season in 2017-18. If he is surrounded by two or three good marksmen, the painted area on the floor will open up for the big man.

The Spurs have only lost Joffrey Lauvergne this free agency period. Last season, Kawhi Leonard only played nine games. This means that the Spurs have basically added to last year’s team with Belinelli, meaning they should be better off in the standings next season, even if Leonard leaves.
