Milwaukee Bucks: 3 reasons signing Ersan Ilyasova is a good move
3. Size
Last season, the Milwaukee Bucks had issues with their lack of size. They had John Henson and Thon Maker, who tried their best. However, as they were without Jabari Parker for the start of the year due to injury and Teletovic for most of the year, they were not able to compete with some of the bigger teams.
If Parker does not re-sign with the Bucks, then they are going to need Ilyasova to step up more. At 6’10” and 235 pounds, Ilyasova has the size to match up with most of the power forwards in the league.
His size and bulk are going to help the Bucks with their rebounding issues. Last season they ranked 28th in the league for defensive rebounds. They ranked 29th in the NBA for offensive rebounds and overall they were dead-last in total rebounds.
For the Bucks to move up the playoff seeding, they are going to move out of the bottom third of these categories. Ilyasova has a career average of 5.9 rebounds per game, which isn’t particularly earth-shattering by itself.
However, thanks to his size, Ilyasova needs to be guarded by someone of a similar size. With his the ability to space the floor, he takes opposing rebounders player away from the play.
