Orlando Magic: 4 potential free agency targets in 2018
By Chris Murch
Here are the four NBA free agents, both unrestricted and restricted, that the Orlando Magic should target this offseason.
The 2018 NBA offseason has already been a roller coaster for the Orlando Magic, and could prove to be very volatile over the next few weeks. The Magic have some bad contracts in Bismack Biyombo and others they will probably have to get rid of to assure better flexibility for the trade and free agent markets. They really do need all the help they can get, however, especially after not being able to draft point guards and shooters.
After drafting Texas center Mohamed Bamba in the first round with pick No. 6 and using picks at 35 and 41 to draft Tulane’s Melvin Frazier and Justin Jackson out of Maryland, they made their strategy of getting young, extremely long, high-level defenders very clear.
Now that the draft has passed, the Magic are focused on obtaining free agents to try to help with their scoring and guard play.
Orlando has already taken care of restricted free agent Aaron Gordon. At 22 and coming off a career year in which he improved in basically every statistical category, Gordon was priority numero uno.
With Gordon locked up, the Magic only have $2.2 million in practical cap space, but they also have the $8.6 non-taxpayer mid-level exception to work with. They should use it to fill some necessary roster spots because boy, do they need some help.
Orlando’s name should pop up in a lot of these discussions on free agents and potential trades, so buckle up, Magic fans. Why don’t we take a look at some unrestricted and restricted free-agents they should target?
