Memphis Grizzlies: 3 reasons Omri Casspi is a good addition
3. Low-risk/high-reward deal for the Grizzlies
When it comes to signing unproven or inconsistent role players, one-year deals are always a great option for teams. Front offices want to see how the player meshes within their organization, and if they prove themselves worthy of a contract, then most teams would be willing to commit to a long-term deal.
If the player fails to play well when given an opportunity, then all it takes is to let him walk once free agency begins the following offseason.
Should Casspi succeed in Memphis, Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace would likely have little to no problem giving him a contract spanning multiple seasons. If Casspi is uninspiring, then it won’t hamstring the team financially, which is something the NBA has seen plenty of in years past.
This transaction is simply a flier on a player looking for another shot in the league, and it gives the Grizzlies a chance to see if he could be a contributing piece moving forward.
