It’s no hot take to suggest that bringing back the reigning two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant was a great decision for the Golden State Warriors, but even his contract does the defending champs some favors.

The Golden State Warriors left little drama to be had in the hours leading up to 2018 NBA free agency, agreeing with Kevin Durant on a two-year deal worth $61.5 million, with a player option for the second season. The news was first reported by The New York Times‘ Marc Stein.

After two consecutive championships, it’s easy to see why the Warriors were quick to bring Durant back into the fold.

A top-three player in the game and one of the greatest scorers in league history, KD’s presence in Golden State has elevated the organization into an echelon of greatness few have ever achieved.

Only now approaching his 30th birthday, Durant has the chance to add a handful of rings to his collection while continuing to raise the prestige of the Warriors franchise.

Unlike most free agent signings, this deal needs little justification as a result of the past two seasons, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun to highlight what will make the Warriors so dominant next season and possibly beyond thanks to this favorable new contract.
