Golden State Warriors: 3 reasons DeMarcus Cousins is unfair
3. Shooters at every position
One of the reasons that the Warriors are so dangerous is their ability to knock down 3-point shots. They have the greatest shooting backcourt in the history of the NBA in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Curry’s worst shooting season was 41.1 percent from deep; Thompson’s is 40.1 percent. Most players would take those as career-high numbers. Kevin Durant, meanwhile, is a 38.4 career shooter from distance.
With Draymond Green being an underwhelming shooter, teams would have a little break there and at center. Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee aren’t shooters. However, the Warriors now replaced two non-shooters with one of the best stretch-5s in the NBA.
Cousins has worked diligently to improve his range offensively. The hard work has paid off. Cousins is a capable 3-point shooter, knocking down 35.9 percent of his 3-pointers with the New Orleans Pelicans. In only 48 games last season, Cousins knocked down 104 3-pointers.
With Cousins in the fold, the Warriors will have a shooter at every spot on the floor. Cousins will give Kerr an infinite amount of flexibility offensively, as he can stretch the floor and be a playmaker as well. The Warriors’ offense was already nearly impossible to stop. Adding a 21.5 points per game scorer to the mix just isn’t fair.
