Aron Baynes will be returning with the Boston Celtics and that means it’s time to look at three reasons this was a good deal.

Aron Baynes played one season with the Boston Celtics after signing a one-year deal in 2017. Yahoo! Sports‘ Shams Charania broke the news early Saturday morning that Baynes will be coming back to the city of Boston on a two-year, $11 million deal.

In today’s NBA, every penny you save is important. So many teams are struggling with cap space and some are fighting with the luxury tax. Everyone knows the Celtics will be struggling with money in a few short years when their young players are up for new contracts.

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, Terry Rozier and Marcus Smart are a few names that will be demanding a lot of money in the coming years. Smart will be demanding a lot of money this summer, but we’re still waiting to see what will happen with his restricted free agency.

Baynes is 31 years old and is that unheralded glue guy that does everything you want from role player. He isn’t going to wow you or even pad the stats, but he’s there to get wins and make others around him better.

This season, he averaged 6.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He also posted a defensive rating of 97.0, which was good for seventh in the NBA among players who played at least 15 minutes per game.

Now that we have looked briefly of the contract and the Celtics team as a whole; it’s time to examine why this was such a good move for Boston.
