The Utah Jazz selected Grayson Allen with pick No. 21 of the 2018 NBA Draft. Allen was the first senior picked in the draft, which is becoming rare for a first round pick. Since the one-and-done rule has come in, most players drafted have only done their one year of college or played overseas.
Allen had a bit of a checkered college career. While no one can deny he is a competitive spirit, some might say a little too competitive. He has a bit of a history of dirty plays and meltdowns on the court, including the incident with now teammate Donovan Mitchell.
However, under an NBA coach of Quinn Snyder’s caliber, there is a good chance that this side of his game will be moderated for the next level. There is much to like in his fire and passion, and the Jazz could use another spark to get them over the next level.
Allen does have question marks on the defensive end, but that should be able to be covered by the rest of the team. What he can potentially add to the offense should outweigh these shortcomings, making the Jazz a better team.
