Sacramento Kings: 5 potential free agent targets in 2018
The Sacramento Kings will not land any big names in free agency, but they have a chance to fill needs with realistic options.
The Sacramento Kings will not sign LeBron James in 2018 (despite all the billboards in Sacramento calling for him). Paul George and Kawhi Leonard are probably heading elsewhere too. That leaves the Kings with more realistic options in the 2018 NBA free agency period.
With approximately $24.6 million in “practical cap space,” the Kings will have a chance to address some needs. The biggest need at the moment is the small forward position, perhaps a player who can defend the perimeter and knock down open shots.
Last season, Kings fans saw a steady dose of small forward Justin Jackson missing open shots and showing no resistance on defense. Bogdan Bogdanovic served as a decent playmaker from the small forward position, but he was also moved around to other positions. The Kings’ best defender last season was small forward Garrett Temple, who opted in to his $8 million player option for next season.
The rest of the small forwards expected to return include Iman Shumpert and unrestricted free agent Vince Carter. While those are all great veterans, Kings obviously can’t count on big minutes from them. With that in mind, here are some of the Kings’ best options in free agency.
