Oklahoma City Thunder: 5 goals for the 2018 offseason
4. Develop a 3-and-D player
The Oklahoma City Thunder have a number of 3-and-D players on their roster. Andre Roberson is the starting shooting guard, Corey Brewer signed on towards the end of last season and Terrance Ferguson was drafted last summer.
However, each of these players has deficiencies in their games that need to be worked on. Roberson is one of the better defensive players in the league. He was named to the NBA All-defensive team in 2016-17. However, Roberson does not provide the 3-point shooting required to be a complete 3-and-D player. His career mark of 25.7 percent from deep is not good enough.
Ferguson is coming into his second year. His playing time increased last season when Roberson went down with his knee injury. Ferguson showed brief glimpses of what he is capable of. His athleticism was on display several times throughout the year.
He shot the 3-ball at 33.3 percent for the season and showed great defensive instincts. However, Ferguson needs to spend more time in the gym developing his strength, which will be essential in the NBA.
Brewer came into the team after being cut from the Los Angeles Lakers. Upon arriving in Oklahoma City, he did what he does best: ran. He made it to the corners and shot the 3-ball at a good 34.3 percent clip. However, he is 11 seasons into his career and is out of contract.
