3. Rodney Hood

2017-18 Stats: 14.7 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 1.6 APG, 0.8 SPG

Rodney Hood cost himself a lot of money this season following the trade that sent him from the Utah Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The fit didn’t seem great from the get-go as he likes to operate more with the ball in his hands than serve as a spot-up shooter.

But playing next to LeBron James should have theoretically helped him increase his stock as a secondary option on offense. Instead, the opposite happened. Hood’s scoring average dipped from what would have been a career-high 16.8 points per game with Utah to 10.8 per game in Cleveland. His 3-point percentage also plummeted, going from 38.9 percent with the Jazz to 35.2 percent with the Cavs.

Despite his struggles, Hood is still an interesting player. At 6’8″ and 206 pounds, he’s a very good athlete with the tools to contribute at a high level on both ends of the floor, but his effort on defense has come and gone over the course of his career and he’s never averaged a full steal per game — almost inexcusable for a player with his length.

Maybe going to Memphis, where defense is king, would help him out on that end. His offensive ability would certainly be welcomed on a team that desperately needs a boost in that area.
