1. Embodies the Grit-N-Grind culture

From the moment that Jevon Carter was drafted by Memphis, many people across social media sought to share their approval of the pick, as the young rookie’s style of play is the embodiment of what the Grit-N-Grind moniker represents to the Grizzlies franchise.

A slogan that took shape during the days of Tony Allen and Zach Randolph in the earlier part of the decade is one that Carter is very familiar with, as the Maywood, Illinois native — who traveled to Memphis over the summers and weekends as a young child — grew up attending Grizzlies games with his mother and uncle.

"“I used to sit up there man, way up there,” Carter said to reporters during his introductory press conference at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. “It still don’t even seem real. I was just soaking up the moment being up there on stage with the guys and I was just like ‘Dang I want to see myself right now.’ “We used to come up to games when I was a shorty, man. We used to come up here, watch them play and just be in awe…It was amazing.”"

Although playing for any NBA franchise would have been a dream come true, Carter seems to be right at home in Memphis, as he appears to already be an instant fan favorite in the Home of the Blues.
