1. Utah Jazz

Ten years ago, Derrick Favors was one of the most sought-after high school basketball players in the country. Coming from the same Atlanta Celtics AAU family that produced Dwight Howard, he was the next big thing from that city and a five-star national recruit.

With all the big-name college programs courting him, Favors ultimately decided to stay home and attend Georgia Tech. My prediction is that Favors’ first foray into NBA free agency ends in similar fashion.

It’s nice to be wanted, and a lot of NBA teams will want Favors. He’ll hear their pitches and enjoy the recruiting process, but I think he’ll eventually choose to stay where he’s comfortable and re-sign with the Jazz.

Favors has a good thing going in Utah. He plays starter’s minutes and makes very good money ($12 million this past season) on a good team.

I covered Favors when he was in high school and have followed his career ever since, and he’s never really been one for the bright lights and media attention. Plus, he actually likes living in Utah, which can’t be said for a lot of NBA players.

Favors is going to see what else is out there, but he does not seem in a rush to leave Salt Lake City for what a lot of people might consider greener pastures.
