Brooklyn Nets: 5 potential free agency targets in 2018
By Alec Liebsch
2. Mario Hezonja
The former No. 5 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Mario Hezonja, has not quite panned out. The Orlando Magic were not a great place for Hezonja to flourish, although he didn’t quite help himself either.
Hezonja is tabbed as a high-volume scorer with unbreakable confidence. Unfortunately though, that confidence also made him reluctant to play within a system in Orlando. He did not pass much, and commanded the ball far too much for an unproven youngster.
What better place to learn to play within a system than Brooklyn? The coaching staff has made several developmental strides with reclamation projects like Joe Harris, and the Nets need a scoring wing if Dzanan Musa isn’t ready to go yet.
He can command the second unit to get his scoring touches, and also learn how to initiate the pick-and-roll with fellow teammates. No one thought Allen Crabbe could run a pick-and-roll effectively until he put on that Nets uniform. Hezonja will need to swallow some pride to play within himself, but there aren’t many better places to do that these days than Brooklyn.
