3. Jerami Grant

Jerami Grant isn’t a sniper by any means, but his physical profile is tantalizing. His defensive acumen, length and athleticism are exceptional.

The fact that the Oklahoma City Thunder are even thinking of letting him go is shocking to me, though their cap situation is admittedly awful. He is the perfect switchable big for today’s NBA, and moonlights as a rim protector too. From point guards to bigs, Grant covers all types of ground.

He’s not the greatest floor-spacer, at only 30.1 percent for his career. But as an athletic big to play next to either RHJ or Jarrett Allen, his potential as a slasher in transition is exciting to ponder.

Grant can cover for defensive liabilities like Joe Harris and Allen Crabbe, while also taking on smaller assignments in smaller lineups sans Allen. He doesn’t get many steals, but he’s finished each of his four seasons with a positive defensive box plus-minus. Considering that half his career was during the Process-era Sixers, that’s an impressive feat.

In today’s cap climate and positional shift, big men who can’t shoot aren’t exactly in high demand. The Nets might be able to poach him with the bi-annual exception, as the Thunder don’t have much cap space to outbid that.
