1. The value of shooting

3-point shooting is all the rage in today’s NBA, and that trend doesn’t seem to be going away quickly. Harris has more value in this era than he ever would have in past ones.

Harris has ripped twine on 40.5 percent of his 3s since donning a Nets jersey. His consistent marksmanship is so valuable to this team, especially when few other consistent snipers are on the roster.

In the event that the Nets sign more shooters down the line, that doesn’t diminish Harris’s value either. You can never have too many shooters in this NBA, especially ones like Harris who don’t command the ball. Possessions are becoming more and more valued as analytics take over the league, and the ability of players to make quick decisions with the ball will continue to be coveted.

Harris is extremely valuable as a consistent shooter. Coaches salivate over the chance to design off-ball plays for guys like him, and Atkinson has certainly done that in Harris’s time with the team.

It cannot be overstated how much this team — ranked 20th in 3-point efficiency last year — needs shooters. Letting one like Harris go would sting, because the second unit’s floor-spacing is already compressed. The team will likely be able to re-sign him at a solid value, and keep roster continuity with their core for the first time in several years.
