With July 1 rapidly approaching, it’s worth looking into the offerings of the each coaches at the helm of those leading the race to secure LeBron James.
Their cap space is virtually non-existent. There are no genuine star players on the roster. Their 2017-18 season consisted of just 44 wins and a first round playoff exit.
However, the Miami Heat hold one key component this summer compared to the host of teams joining the race to secure the signature of LeBron James.
That key component is coaching.
The following tweet from betting site Odds Shark outlays the most recent odds of which team James will join this summer:
Updated odds on which team LeBron James will be on for the first game of the 2018-19 NBA season (Bovada):
— Odds Shark (@OddsShark) June 27, 2018
Lakers -155
Cavaliers +200
76ers +550
Celtics +900
Rockets +950
Spurs +2800
Knicks +3000
Clippers +4000
Heat +4000
As can be seen, the Heat are classified as a distinct outsider. However, recent comments made by Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s First Take certainly raised eyebrows:

It certainly didn’t hurt that James was recently in Miami watching his son Bryce play in a high school basketball tournament. However, the Heat won’t simply be able to rely past relationships and ties with the franchise in luring James back for a second tour of duty.
Fresh intel: Don't count #Heat out in @kawhileonard sweepstakes. I personally believe #Sixers are the favorites, but I never underestimate Pat Riley. If he can get Kawhi, then guess who he can go after on July 6?

Instead, the overall standing of head coach Erik Spoelstra is one distinct point of difference the Heat can offer on the eve of James making possibly the final major decision of his career.
With this in mind, here’s a look at the coaches of some of the favorites to land James’ services, and how they compare with the incumbent in Miami.
