4. Shot creation

The Philadelphia 76ers are still quite young and growing. In the semifinals against the Boston Celtics, the offense was stymied at the perimeter. In the first game, the Sixers shot a paltry 19.2 percent from long range.

Analyzing the team’s struggles did not take hours upon hours of video; the Celtics simply challenged them away from the basket, and no shooter had the ability to shake defenders and opt to drive to the basket.

That simply does not happen with a Sixers lineup that includes LeBron James. Let’s face it, the Celtics had no answer for Joel Embiid. So they focused on Ben Simmons and the perimeter shooters to surprising success. Markelle Fultz simply never got traction, and the team discovered the fortitude of backup guard T.J. McConnell too late in the series to turn the outcome.

But LeBron James solves the litany of needs for the team’s immediate future. He can put up insane points in any game. As the defense rolls his way, he can selflessly dish to the open shooter, and he becomes a certain target for the slippery dishes from Simmons.
