LeBron James: 5 potential landing spots in 2018 free agency
LeBron James will have no shortage of suitors if he becomes a free agent on July 1, and there’s a bevy of factors that will play into his decision.
For the third time in his illustrious career, LeBron James will have the opportunity to shake up the NBA landscape. Should he opt out of his contract by June 29, as Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reports he will, James will hit the free agent market still very much in his prime with the chance to alter a team’s future and dampen the hopes of others.
James announced the decision to take his talents to South Beach on July 8. His letter declaring his return home came out July 11. When his next choice is announced is anyone’s guess.
All 30 teams would love to bring LeBron to their city, but there are only so many of them that make logical sense, and even fewer with the requisite cap space in order to do so.
LeBron is as smart a man as there is in the league. He, his inner circle and his family will no doubt sit down and weigh all the options on the table in order to come to a conclusion, with his wife and kids playing more of a role than before.
While all free agent decisions are important, this one holds special weight for James, with this likely being the final destination before he retires, and what he accomplishes moving forward will shape his legacy forever.
