Kevin Durant: 5 free agency spots that would be more fun than the Warriors
Kevin Durant isn’t going anywhere in 2018 NBA free agency, but it’s fun to dream. Here are five landing spots that would be more fun for the league than the Golden State Warriors.
Kevin Durant is going to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors this summer. When he does, the Warriors winning a third straight title will become as inevitable as … well, Kevin Durant re-signing with the Golden State Warriors this summer.
From a financial perspective, the Dubs can offer KD more money than anyone, and after leaving money on the table last summer so Golden State could afford to re-sign Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston, he’s due for a massive payday.
From a legacy standpoint, one of the best ways to distract from the stink of leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder to form an unfair super-team is to bury it under an avalanche of Larry O’Brien trophies and Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP awards.
At this point, most people have accepted that Kevin Durant was not — and will never be — the one to challenge LeBron James head-to-head and claim his throne as the league’s alpha dog. He’s had an unfair advantage with the Warriors, and at this point, KD’s legacy will always be simultaneously enhanced and limited by what he accomplishes with an untouchable juggernaut.

However, even if it makes the most sense for Kevin Durant to remain in the Bay Area for financial, basketball and personal reasons, we can dream, right? The rest of the league is doing what it can to catch up, making it tantalizing to think about a league where next season’s NBA champion isn’t 100 percent predictable in August.
Riding this train of thought into fantasy land, if Kevin Durant were to shock the world and consider other teams in free agency to make the Warriors mortal again, which spots would be the best free agency destinations for him? Which would make the league more fun and unpredictable, which could actually challenge the almighty Dubs for the NBA crown and which could realistically bring him aboard?
Without further ado, here’s a look at five potential free agency destinations for Kevin Durant that would be more fun for everyone (outside the Bay Area, at least) than re-signing with the Warriors.
