Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 goals for the 2018 offseason
5. Pick up the pace
The Timberwolves ranked just 22nd in pace during the regular season, which wouldn’t be so terrible until one considers the athletes they possess.
Karl-Anthony Towns is just 22 years old, while Andrew Wiggins is only 23. Both can run with the best of them and throw down beautiful dunks when the opportunity possesses itself. Then there’s Jeff Teague, one of the fastest guards in the league, and Jimmy Butler, a man who’s always in motion.
Minnesota should be one of the most exciting teams in the league, but it’d rather run half-court offense instead of pushing the tempo with the gazelles that wear the team colors.
This isn’t simply about being entertaining, though. Running in transition is a great way to put pressure on the defense and create easy scoring opportunities. Why wouldn’t teams want easier ways to score buckets?
The Timberwolves, unlike some in the league, actually have the personnel to be one of the fastest teams. It’d be silly to wast that talent before it runs out.
