Detroit Pistons: 5 potential free agency targets in 2018
2. Raul Neto
Raul Neto is an interesting option that helps fill a role on the team. Neither Jackson nor Ish Smith are great 3-point shooters. Neto is a career 38.8 percent shooter from distance. He’s also younger than both with fewer career minutes than either of them. The team will probably be losing Jameer Nelson this offseason, but the signing of Neto would soften that blow.
Neto also possesses the ability to distribute the ball. While Jackson focuses on driving to the basket, Neto is able to run the offense from outside the paint. Last season, he averaged 5.4 assists per 36 minutes. He also shot a career-best 40.4 percent from 3-point range. While Jackson and Smith will be the top two off the bench, Neto would provide additional depth, while adding a new wrinkle to the offense.
Neto is another cheap option to help maintain some semblance of cap space. One trade rumor that has been floated this offseason is the possibility of moving on from Jackson to gain more cap flexibility. If the team doesn’t do that, then adding Neto into the fold would be a great option.
