Atlanta Hawks: 5 potential free agency targets in 2018
4. Alex Len
The fifth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft — one of the worst in recent history, by the way — hasn’t nearly lived up to that selection. However, Len is coming off of his best season as a professional, finishing with career highs in true shooting percentage, PER, win shares per 48 minutes, BPM and VORP. He could help out a number of teams as a backup.
I could see some overzealous team overpaying Len once Cousins, DeAndre Jordan and Clint Capela are off the market. However, I hope that whoever signs him shows some discretion with the salary figures. Len can be valuable, but only at the right price.
Atlanta’s top two centers, Dedmon and Muscala, both have picked up their player options for next season. Still, Len makes sense as suitable competition for both of them if he can be acquired at a reasonable cost.
At age 25, Len still has some room for development. If he can continue to be effective rolling to the basket (1.22 points per possession as the screener) and finishing around the rim (61.4 percent shooting from inside the restricted area), he could be a boon to the young guards.
Some thought that Len would’ve been a good signing for the Hawks last year. He still makes a lot of sense this year.
