Oklahoma City Thunder: 2017-18 player grades for Patrick Patterson
Weaknesses
Patterson was not able to produce for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season. In his exit interviews, he said that this season “wasn’t what he expected.” He only averaged 3.9 points with 2.4 rebounds per game. Also, he only shot 39.9 percent from the field.
Patterson had 29 games this past season where he didn’t record any points. He was brought to produce and score about eight points a game. He wasn’t able to do that and the Thunder suffered dearly for it.
Patterson only made 66 3-pointers this season. They needed him to hit shots and hit shots in abundance, but he couldn’t do it. That’s part of the reason the bench was 29th in the league in scoring.
Without any scoring options on the bench and inconsistent play from Patterson, the Thunder were left with only the Big 3 as the only real scoring threats on the team.
Patterson will have to focus on flashing to the corner and consistently getting open so he can keep shooting the corner 3. As said before, he was able to shoot the corner 3 at a 39 percent clip last year.
