Philadelphia 76ers: 5 reasons Zhaire Smith was a good pick
4. Athleticism
Zhaire Smith is close to the most athletic player in the draft. His vertical leap of 41.5 inches is second only to Donte DiVincenzo of the Milwaukee Bucks and Josh Okogie of the Minnesota Timberwolves (42 inches). However, it is not just the leaping ability that gives Smith his incredible athleticism.
He is explosive off the mark and very fast up and down the court. This is going to fit in well with the style of basketball the 76ers are developing. His ability to cut in the half-court offense will help space the floor for Simmons to attack the rim.
Opposing defenders are not going to be able to leave Smith alone as he will get a very high percentage shot at the rim, which will usually finish in a rim-rocking dunk. This will have the impact of getting his team into the game and if they are playing at home, the crowd will be right into it.
His speed is also going to be tremendous for transition points. Watching a Simmons-led fast break is exciting. Smith is a little like Corey Brewer in that he will get out ahead of the defense, causing it to break down and giving his team easier opportunities to score.
