The Philadelphia 76ers selected Wichita State guard Landry Shamet with the No. 26 pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Here are five reasons why this was a good pick.

Coming into the 2017-18 campaign, the Philadelphia 76ers were not a very good team to say the least. In fact, thanks to The Process, the Sixers had missed the playoffs in each of the five prior seasons.

Not only that, the Sixers won more than 30 games only once during that span. This includes an abysmal 2015-16 season in which they managed to win just 10 games. With both of their former No. 1 overall picks in Ben Simmons (2016) and Joel Embiid (2014) back in the fold, the team’s fortunes drastically changed, to say the least.

This past season, the Sixers produced a 52-30 mark, enabling them to finish with the third-best record in the Eastern Conference.

How long had it been since the Sixers won more than 50 games in a season? The last such occurrence took place in 2000-01, when Allen Iverson led them on a remarkable run to the NBA Finals.

Although the Sixers were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the second round of this year’s playoffs, they served notice that they are a team that will be in the conference playoff race for many years to come. In order to continue the momentum of their memorable season, the Sixers knew they would have to make the right moves in the 2018 NBA Draft.

One of their draft selections was Landry Shamet, who they selected with the 26th overall pick. Here’s a look at the five reasons why this was a wise move.
