Detroit Pistons: 2017-18 player grades for Langston Galloway
Weaknesses
As much as Reggie Bullock and Luke Kennard excelled at shooting, Galloway was the complete opposite. His shooting line of .371/.344/.805 was close to career lows across the board. While 34.4 percent from 3 is just slightly below his career average, 37.1 percent from the field is unacceptable. He has shown games with great shooting touch, and he just needs to increase his consistency.
Rebounding was a major low for him this season. He averaged a measly 1.6 per game, which was only 3.8 per 36 minutes. Some of his lack of raw counting numbers can be attributed to fewer minutes. However, there was a reason he wasn’t getting those minutes. When on the floor, Galloway struggled to be aggressive towards the basket to recover those missed shots. While the team has several strong rebounders, Galloway’s 6’8″ wingspan should help him be higher on that list.
Galloway has never been a great distributor. This season was arguably his worst. Per 36 minutes, he only averaged 2.4, which is his second-lowest mark of his career. As a rookie, he showed the ability to make the right pass, but he has yet to further develop his passing.
RealGM wrote that he looked like more of a combo guard early in his career, and he has further moved into that mold. He has to determine what type of player he wants to be moving forward. Either pass more or shoot better, but it has to be one or the other to stick in the league.
