The Milwaukee Bucks drafted Villanova swingman Donte DiVincenzo with the 17th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Here are five reasons he was a good pick.
The Milwaukee Bucks entered the 2018 NBA Draft without any glaring team needs — no position on the roster is completely bereft of bodies — but with an overarching need to get a competent player who will contribute. Recent drafts have yielded players such as Rashad Vaughn and D.J. Wilson who, to this point in their NBA careers, have not contributed in any meaningful way to winning basketball.
In fact they have barely contributed at all. Vaughn was traded soon after the Bucks declined the fourth-year option on his contract, and Wilson played just 71 total minutes during his rookie season. While the Bucks have found value in the second round, they needed to hit on this first round pick — not a home run, as they have swung for over the past five years, but simply a single.
As the draft unfolded, a number of teams traded up and down throughout the first round, but Milwaukee stayed pat. They resisted the urge to trade their pick to move salary, and instead drafted Villanova swingman Donte DiVincenzo with the 17th pick of the draft.
DiVincenzo, a redshirt sophomore fresh off a dominant showing in the NCAA championship game, buzzed his way up draft boards in recent months. DiVincenzo was coveted enough as a prospect to get invited to the green room Thursday night. What is there about the fiery guard to draw the interest of Milwaukee and a number of other teams?
While there were other options available at No. 17, and this author personally does not think this was a slam dunk pick, the Bucks did not strike out in selecting DiVincenzo. He should be a solid player for the team for years to come. Here are five reasons the Bucks made a good pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
