Denver Nuggets: 5 reasons Michael Porter Jr. was a good pick
By Ty Delbridge
2. Three-level scorer
Despite the injuries, Porter is arguably the best offensive player in the entire draft class. Porter can score from all over the court and doesn’t mind being a go-to option. He doesn’t let mistakes get to him and never sees a shot he doesn’t like. He has elite offensive skills.
Porter can score with the ball in his hands. He has a variety of different moves he can go to and never seems to struggle to get his shot off, even if he is tightly guarded. He can get by his defender and finish at the rim or with a floater. Porter can score from the pull-up and mid-range area. He can back down smaller guys and blow by bigger ones.
MPJ can also play off-ball because of his ability to space the floor with his shooting, and he makes smart cuts to the hoop and moves to get open looks. He moves well for his size and has no problem scoring off of screens. In high school, Porter scored a career 3,400 points.
Porter is hard to stop on a fast break and is explosive when he wants to get to the basket. He has no problem grabbing a rebound and taking it coast to coast. He has all the tools to be a consistent 20 points per game scorer in the NBA for a long time.
