Denver Nuggets: 5 reasons Michael Porter Jr. was a good pick
By Ty Delbridge
4. Physical tools
Porter is 20 years old and has fantastic physical tools to go along with excellent basketball talent. Porter is 6’10” with a 7’0.25” wingspan. He is a fluid athlete and is explosive near the rim. If he wants to, he has the tools to be a good defender who can guard multiple positions.
Porter has excellent size for a wing and physically compares to guys like Paul George and Maurice Harkless when they came out in the draft. Nuggets fans are hoping Porter follows more of the George route for his career.
Porter is a mismatch pretty much every time he touches the ball on offense. He is too big for smaller wings and too quick for bigger forwards. His body will only improve once he is in an NBA weight room every day. But he can do things at 6’10” that is going to cause defenses a ton of issues.
On defense, he will be able to hold his own once he adds more muscle to his body. He has long arms, quick feet and a high basketball IQ. He should develop into a good defender over time.
