Detroit Pistons: 3 reasons Bruce Brown Jr. was a good pick
By Amaar Burton
2. Brown is versatile
Triple-doubles are rare in college basketball, due to the length of the game (40 minutes) and the fact that most systems don’t allow for — and most players aren’t good enough for — individual dominance on the level of a Russell Westbrook or LeBron James.
Brown put together two triple-doubles in his two years at Miami: He had an 11-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist game against South Carolina State as a freshman, and a 10-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist stat line against Gardner-Webb as a sophomore.
Three other times Brown had double-digit rebounds, and two other times he had eight or more assists.
Although a foot injury limited him to just 19 games this past season, Brown averaged 11.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. That included a 23-point effort against rival Florida State; 20 points, six rebounds and three assists against Middle Tennessee; and a 19-point, nine-assist game against NC State.
That kind of well-rounded production is all you could hope for from a second round pick.
