The Detroit Pistons used their second round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft to land a first round talent in Miami guard Bruce Brown Jr.

Going into the 2018 NBA Draft, who the Detroit Pistons would select with their No. 42 pick in the second round was just as much of a mystery as who would be making the selection.

The Pistons still do not have an official roster decision-making executive at the moment, be it a general manager, president of basketball operations, or whatever title you want to use.

After firing head coach and president Stan Van Gundy last month, team owner Tom Gores brought in former Memphis Grizzlies executive Ed Stefanski as an adviser to oversee the hiring of Detroit’s next coach and roster-builder. Dwane Casey was hired as head coach on June 11.

“We’re going through a process here. We’re thinking about, do we want to go a GM route? Do we want to get some younger guys in there and I can mentor them kind of thing? It’s fluid,” Stefanski was quoted by the Associated Press. “I’m going to be very influential in the front office.”

So who had the most say on draft night when the Pistons were on the clock? Was it Casey? Gores? Stefanski? Did they just ask All-Star center Andre Drummond who he wants to play with and go from there?

Whoever made the call, Miami shooting guard Bruce Brown Jr. was the right one to make. Here are three reasons why.
