5. He gives the Wizards much-needed depth

Since their ascendence from “league-wide laughingstock” to “ho-hum Eastern Conference playoff team”, the Wizards have struggled with one thing on a year-in, year-out basis: consistent bench production.

This was most glaring in the 2017 Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics. In that series, the Wizards starters raced out to double-digit leads on numerous occasions only to see the bench give them right back. This ultimately cost them a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Don’t get me wrong, their reserves weren’t terrible by any means last year. They ranked 16th in scoring after all. But this team — whether it was Scott Brooks or Randy Wittman coaching — has struggled to get consistent bench scoring; in the last five seasons, they haven’t finished in the top 10 in bench points and have ranked 29th twice.

Brown can be someone that could ease the burden for the star players. At the very least, he could allow guys like Otto Porter Jr., John Wall, and Bradley Beal to get periods of rest so that they are fresh for the playoffs.

Between Brown, Kelly Oubre Jr., Mike Scott and Tomas Satoransky, the Wizards bench looks like it could become of the better groups in the association going forward.
