Dallas Mavericks: 5 reasons Luka Doncic was a good pick
2. An offensive savant
Doncic’s offensive versatility is unheard of. He can get physical in the low post, hit runners, step back for mid-range jump shots and hit a 3 when given space. When he sees a double-team or is guarded by a physical defender, he doesn’t lose his cool, and instead uses his size to make a head-turning pass. He’s like Ben Simmons with a jump shot.
His polished game on offense makes up for his lack of elite athleticism, and he is competitive on the defensive-end to avoid being a liability. He won’t be able to defend explosive point guards like Russell Westbrook and Damian Lillard one-on-one, but that’s what makes his fit with DSJ even better — he won’t have to.
Doncic has still struggled against aggressive and athletic defenders. His lack of explosiveness leads to him often settling for tough jump shots. Still, Doncic has the foundation to be an outstanding offensive player in the NBA.
