The Washington Wizards took lanky swingman Troy Brown Jr. with the 15th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Here’s why they made the right decision.

By and large, teams that pick outside of a lottery slot in the NBA Draft aren’t hoping to get a franchise-altering superstar. After all, if a team doesn’t have a lottery pick, it probably means that barring some ill-fated trade, they made the playoffs and already have their cornerstone player.

Instead, teams typically look for complementary players that can help them inch closer to title contention. For the Washington Wizards — who bowed out of the first round in six games to the Toronto Raptors this postseason — they pegged Oregon shooting guard/small forward Troy Brown Jr. as the guy that could bolster their wing depth.

At just 18 years old, Brown has the potential to develop into a versatile swingman that can make plays on both ends of the court. He may not have a superstar ceiling, but I could see Brown becoming one of the better two-way players in the NBA if everything goes right.

All things considered, the Wizards made the right choice picking Brown. They got a young player with upside that fits the mold of what most teams want out of the guard/forward positions. However, if this quick intro wasn’t enough to convince you, maybe these five reasons will.
