No. 44: Issuf Sanon, Ukraine

The Wizards used their second round pick on a relative unknown in the NBA Draft. They selected Ukrainian point guard Issuf Sanon with the 44th pick in the draft, despite all the available talent on this side of the water.

It was another interesting pick for Washington in the second, this time a draft-and-stash player in order to improve their financial outlook going forward. Sanon won’t be eligible to come over to the NBA for the next few seasons, which makes his acquisition even more confusing.

He’s a 6’4″ point guard who averaged 6.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game last season for Olimpija in Slovenia. His game continues to develop as he’s only 18 years old, but with other talent in the draft, it’s interesting they chose the overseas route to improve their roster.

Guards John Wall and Bradley Beal pretty much have the Wizards’ backcourt locked down, so it will be interesting to see how the front office adjusts going forward.
