Overall

The Memphis Grizzlies made waves in the 2018 NBA Draft by selecting two quality players who aren’t necessarily explosive scorers, but fit the defensive style Memphis likes to play.

The Grizzlies looked to be missing a few pieces in 2017-18. They filled a few holes for the 2018-19 season, which is only just beginning for them, so it’s good to see them select Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jevon Carter.

Jackson should be a formidable force in the paint alongside Gasol if all goes well, as should Jevon Carter. Jackson has an unstoppable motor on both ends that’s hard to stop once he gets going. Carter possesses a knack for on-ball defense that would bring tears of joy to Pat Beverley’s eyes.

Together, the duo looks to change the culture in Memphis for the better. The Grizzlies won 21 fewer games in 2017-18 than they did in 2016-17, something that needs to change quickly if they hope to remain a relevant franchise.

This year’s draft was a stepping stone in the right direction, now they’ll need to look towards free agency in July to really hit a home run.
