Overall

In review, the Mavericks selected four new players in the 2018 NBA Draft. Two of them (Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson) probably have the most realistic chances to make the final roster, but even then, nothing is guaranteed.

Doncic holds the key to the Dallas Mavericks progressing to the next level. He’ll need to co-exist with Dennis Smith Jr. on the floor, but given Smith’s playmaking ability and burst, both players should mesh well under head coach Rick Carlisle.

Jalen Brunson is another player with intrigue given his size and ability. He has experience running the pick-and-roll offense and efficiency from behind the arc.

The draft sets the Mavericks up for an interesting free agency this offseason. They passed on Mohamed Bamba, a big man and probably their biggest weak spot on the roster, in the NBA Draft and instead went with Luka Doncic.

They must have something up their sleeves this July, that’s for sure. It’s hard to foresee the Mavs going through another rough season like the one they had in 2017-18.
