Dallas Mavericks: 2018 NBA Draft grades
No. 60: Kostas Antetokounmpo, Dayton (via Philadelphia 76ers)
Dayton Flyers forward Kostas Antetokounmpo is another intriguing prospect the Dallas Mavericks traded for during the 2018 NBA Draft. He is the brother of All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo and found himself in the draft after one year of college basketball.
He only averaged 5.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 29 appearances as a freshman, six of them starts. While it’s a good thing he was drafted, he may be nothing more than a prospect or two-way contract kind of player for the Mavs.
As the last pick in the draft, Kostas should feel motivated by the likes of Isaiah Thomas, who was the last pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Thomas went from last pick to leading his team to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
Expectations will be high for Kostas as comparisons to his brother will follow him wherever he goes. There’s room for him in the frontcourt, but he’ll have to do a lot to prove himself to make the 15-man roster.
