The Dallas Mavericks look to be well on their way to creating another international star after the 2018 NBA Draft. Here’s a look at their draft grades.

The 2018 NBA Draft was full of surprise moves and the Dallas Mavericks were part of the action. They traded Oklahoma Sooners point guard Trae Young (the fifth overall pick) along with a lottery-protected first-round pick in 2019 to the Atlanta Hawks for third overall pick, Luka Doncic.

In essence, the teams swapped picks in a similar move the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics made in the 2016 NBA Draft. Instead of adding Trae Young to their backcourt, the addition of swingman Luka Doncic brings a different element altogether for a team in need of a new approach.

Despite trading Young to the Hawks, the Mavericks also acquired another point guard for their backcourt. Villanova Wildcats Jalen Brunson was selected with the 33rd overall selection.

They weren’t done making trades either, as they traded the No. 54 pick, Shake Milton, to the Philadelphia 76ers for the No. 56 pick, Ray Spalding, and No. 60, Kostas Antetokounmpo.

A few guys will have to work hard to earn spots on the 2018-19 roster but the Mavericks did well on draft night given their positioning. Here’s a look at grades for their selections from the 2018 NBA Draft.
