Indiana Pacers

  • No. 23: Aaron Holiday, UCLA
  • No. 50: Alize Johnson, Missouri State

People seem to be torn on Aaron Holiday, with some buying into his potential and his NBA name (his brothers Jrue Holiday and Justin Holiday are both in the league), and others selling his lack of size and athleticism. Consider this writer in the latter group.

Though he could be a microwave scorer off the bench, Holiday projects as a backup because he’s only 6’0″. He’s got a 6’7″ wingspan, to be fair, but lacks the lateral quickness to defend starting 1s. Even if he’s good, a plug-in scorer with his skill-set could’ve been found later in the draft. This feels like a reach at No. 23.

As for Alize Johnson, he’s a power forward with decent ball-handling skills who’s probably more well known for teaching NBA Twitter there’s a Missouri State University than anything he’ll do on the court. The Indiana Pacers are a team on the rise, but this draft didn’t carry forward the momentum very well.
