No. 34: Devonte’ Graham, Kansas (via Atlanta Hawks)

This pick originally belonged to the Atlanta Hawks, but the Hornets took a couple of future second round picks and were able to pick up an extra player in the 2018 NBA Draft. That player became Devonte’ Graham, an experienced point guard out of Kansas.

This could be a fun opportunity for Graham, as he played high school ball just up the interstate from Charlotte in Raleigh, North Carolina, for Broughton High School.

The Hornets landed a prospect that played four years in Kansas and was named the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2017-18. Graham put up an average of 12.3 points and 4.5 assists per game in his collegiate career, posting a career-high 17.3 points and 7.2 assists per game in his senior season for the Jayhawks.

Graham hit nearly 41 percent of this 3-point attempts in his collegiate career and has a great range from everywhere beyond the arc:

While Graham might need some more polish, it’s not unreasonable for the Hornets to think they have their backup point guard taken care of now. He should be able to give Walker a rest here and there, or even play alongside him if the Hornets need a spark on defense or in the scoring department. They potentially have a starter too if they still try to find a trade suitor for Kemba Walker.
