1. Current roster

The Detroit Pistons have enough talent on the current roster to make the playoffs in 2019. The Big 3 of Reggie Jackson, Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin is more than enough to advance to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

The acquisition of Griffin in January gives the Pistons two dominant big men in the paint. Griffin is a five-time All-Star, and averages 21.5 points per game for his career. Drummond is averaging a double-double throughout his career, and had career-bests in 2017-18 in rebounds and assists.

Guards Reggie Jackson and Reggie Bullock are the players I expect to improve the most under Dwane Casey. The success of Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan proves that he can develop guards. For the first time in his career, Bullock was a consistent starter last season. In the 52 games he started, he averaged 11.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.

Casey has a full offseason to develop a system to accentuate the strengths of his roster. There’s no doubt the talent is there in Detroit. However, the success of the Pistons is dependent on the ability of Griffin and Jackson to stay healthy. Both players have missed significant time the past couple of seasons due to injury.

Whether by luck or by design, Casey managed to keep Kyle Lowry and DeMar Derozan healthy and on the court throughout his tenure in Toronto. If the Pistons’ Big 3 can stay healthy, they will make noise in the playoffs in 2019.
