New Orleans Pelicans: Top 10 moments from 2017-18 NBA season
8. Pelicans light it up against Los Angeles Lakers
The Pelicans were hoping to go into the All-Star break with a three-game winning streak. The only thing standing between them and this feat was the rebuilding Los Angeles Lakers.
As one would expect, the Pelicans ended up beating their opponent by a wide margin (139-117). On this night, though, it wasn’t about the fact that they beat their opponent, but rather how they beat them.
For starters, the Pelicans set a franchise record with 46 points in the game’s first 12 minutes. They scored a total of 79 points in the first half – just one point shy of the franchise record for first-half points.
Additionally, the Pelicans shot 53.5 percent from the field overall while knocking down 14 of their 32 attempts from 3-point range. Five players scored in double figures, but no one shined more so than Davis, who poured in 42 points on an ultra-efficient 15-of-18 shooting from the field, which marked his second 40-point outing in three games. Davis also collected 15 rebounds, along with three steals, three assists and two blocks.
There are some nights when a team can’t buy a bucket, and there are other nights when nearly every shot seems to go in. The latter was definitely the case for the Pels in this contest.
