9. Eric Gordon‘s game-winning triple in Philadelphia

On a night where most Houston sports fans had their eyes turned to the 2017 World Series, Eric Gordon managed to step up to the plate for the Rockets, as the Sixth Man of the Year put together a stellar performance against the Philadelphia 76ers on the road in the absence of Chris Paul.

He also hit a shot that would silence the hearts of 20,682 fans in attendance at the Wells Fargo Center, as the Rockets’ own Mr. October would manage to come through mightily in walk-off fashion.

With five seconds left to play in regulation, Gordon took advantage of a double-team drawn by James Harden, and sprung out to the left corner to receive a pass. Followed by using a pump fake and a side dribble to create space, he knocked down a spectacular 3-point at the buzzer that gave Houston its only lead over the final 18 minutes of the contest.

Gordon scored a game-high 29 points and hit five 3-pointers on the night to help lead the Rockets to a 105-104 win.

"“You’ve got to be prepared to knock down shots like that,” Gordon told the Associated Press. “You miss it, you miss it.”"

Although it only marked the fifth game on the 2017-18 season, Gordon’s prime-time heroics would prove to help Houston find its stride and weather the storm without Paul during the early part of the year. They managed to win 13 out of their next 16 contests by an average of 19.2 points per contest, while also getting off to a 17-4 start through the first 21 games on the year, as the Rockets would shoot to the top of the Western Conference standings and never look back.
